Backacres is a locally owned and operated business based in Athol, Idaho. As a family-run company, we deliver honest work, fair pricing, and dependable service to our community. We know the land in North Idaho — thick timber, overgrown acreage, and raw ground ready for a build — and we have the equipment and experience to handle it. From clearing brush to full site preparation, no job is too small or too large. We approach every project with the same level of care, precision, and attention to detail.
I’m Josh Russell, owner and operator of Backacres Excavation and Land Clearing. I grew up in a small town in Alaska, where spending time outdoors shaped the way I work and approach projects. I enjoy providing professional services to people in the Northwest, working in an industry where my office is the land itself. forestry mulching cleans up overgrowth and cuts down fire danger. it clears out heavy brush and ladder fuels that can carry flames and put your property at risk during fire season. the material is ground into natural mulch, which helps prevent erosion, hold moisture in the soil, and return nutrients back to the ground.
we build driveways and access roads that hold up to north idaho weather. proper grading and drainage are key to preventing washouts, ruts, and standing water. from new driveway installation to regrading and gravel work, we make sure you have solid, reliable access to your property.
